DRAFT: Having subscribers is a pain in the ass.
Go ahead and hurt my butt if you want. I don't care anymore.
THIS POST IS A DRAFT. IT’S IN THE WTF DRAFTS NEWSLETTER. SOMEDAY IT MAY BE FINISHED AND DISAPPEAR.
As I wrote or will have written in this post:
I’ve been screwing around with this blog/substack/whatever for nearly ten years, never looking to increase readership. Only recently added an occasional
in a half-hearted way because subscribers are cool, but having subscribers is a pain in the ass.
Why is it a pain in the ass? Because of the ego. The fucking ego. My ego and the ego I imagine that you have.
Why write?
Right now, I’ve got 31 subscribers.
Back on July 26, when I wrote a post called “Who Cares,” I had 21.
Some of them care. They posted comments saying so.
Some of them liked my posts. Some told friends about them.
And that has been a problem because of the ego. The fucking ego.
On August 25, I wrote a post which (in part) honored one of my subscribers, the very talented moviewise.
I so much appreciate your support of my writing! It means a lot to have earned the praise of a writer I admire! Sometimes I have to be careful because I feel that I start writing like you, so there is some kind of sync between us. Either we actually write similarly, or think similarly, or just appreciate each other's wording. But my ego makes me modify my writing to sound more like "me" and less like you. My point is that you inspire me. Thank you so much Michael Wolf! And Happy Birthday 🎂🎁
